Tacos La Estrella

Thursday, Jul 15, 2010

You simply can’t go wrong with Mexican food and Taco La Estrella dishes up just what they promise. Cheap, delicious food that will have you coming back for more. Their meat is fresh and the sauce are absolutely delicious. If you need a kick, try the hot sauce, but just be warned, it’s pretty hot.

The people working there are friendly and helpful, just what you’d expect from a Mexican restaurant. Warm people, always happy and smiling and offer suggestions on what to order if you need help deciding. Listen to what they have to say, they know what they’re talking about as far as their menu goes.

The prices are very affordable. With a taco being a little over a buck, you’ll be sure to want to buy a dozen. Their sopes are hand-made, you can often see the cooks making them right then and there. It’s a hidden gem that’s becoming more and more popular, so be sure to go there and see what all the fuss is about.

Vees Café

Wednesday, Jul 14, 2010

Good food, great atmosphere and they even deliver. Vees Café has it all. Small and cozy this coffee shop offers tradition coffee shop fare such as chai teas and espressos as well as food with a Mexican twist, such as their spinach tortillas and green sauce. There are also hot and cold sandwiches that you can eat with a delicious smoothie or freshly squeezed juice, even veggie juice. Their wide selection of coffee and teas guarantees that you’ll go home happy. They have loose tea leaves as well if you’re looking for something more natural. As if that’s not enough, they even have milkshakes.

It’s artsy and you might see people playing guitar or looking through their camera lens. It’s a relief to find a coffee shop that’s not geared towards yuppies or dinks. True to its artsy nature they offer vegan options as well. Want soy milk? No prob, your wish is their command. Green and down to earth, they’ve got friendly service and value their customers. They even have those punch cards that will get you a free drink.

Don’t forget dessert. After all, coffee shops are just as famous for their pastries, cookies and other sweets. Their red velvet cupcakes are absolutely divine. The only downside is that on weekends they close a bit early. Yet it’s for a good cause, they want the staff to be able to go out and party. Life doesn’t get much better than that.

La Cevicheria

Monday, Jul 05, 2010

Ceviche, the Latin American version of sushi is becoming more and more popular. If raw fish isn’t to your taste, then not to worry, because they have plenty of other dishes to try. Their fish taco is incredibly popular as are their quesadillas. You really should try a seafood dish or two at La Cevicheria. If you do decide to open for a ceviche, try the bloody clam dish (conchas negras) it’s out of this world. Be sure to save room for dessert, their tres leches is sweet and will melt in your mouth.

The downside is that the area is a bit sketchy, so all the more reason to go with a group of friends to try their delicious dishes. Also, the restaurant is pretty small, so a bit hard to find, and there’s not a lot of parking available. However, the food more than makes up for these downfalls and you certainly can’t beat the prices. The fish tacos will only set you back about five bucks and they’re authentic and all their food is so fresh it could probably walk off the plate.

La Cevicheria has a lot to offer as far as low prices, large portions, fresh food, and friendly staff. Of course, this being a Latin American restaurant, if there’s a soccer game on, you can bet it will be on they will turn the TV on. If you’re sick of the same old-same old, then check out La Cevicheria, you won’t be disappointed.
