In 2008 I started a company called “The Bread Bar” with the intention of eventually having a fleet of Gourmet Trucks. I spent about 8 months custom building a prototype and received license to operate it from the San Diego Department of Health. In August 2008 we test marketed this unit for a month.

Due to personal reasons, I made a decision not to go forward with this project. The unit has been in storage at a garage in La Jolla for the last 2 years. I am anxious to either sell the unit or partner with someone who would operate it.

A food van works well with minimal costs and no long-term lease commitments. It also offers you the opportunity to try different locations.

You can operate the unit in a permanent location such as a gas station, a shopping center, or wherever you find the right kind of traffic. You can also attend various events or farmer’s markets, or a combination of a permanent location during the week, and events on the weekend.

Eastside Market Italian Deli

Whether you want to eat in, take out, or cater an event, then you’ve come to the right place. Eastside Market Italian Deli is a little hidden gem, but once you find it, you’ll be going back for more. Founded in 1929, this deli has lots of experience and has perfected the art of making hot and cold sandwiches.

If you’re hungry at lunch time, be prepared to wait. This deli’s popularity means that you’ll have to stand in a line in order to get what you want. Sharing a table isn’t out of the question either. If you’re not comfortable with that, either get it to go or avoid the lunch hour rush.

Number 7, the pastrami, roast beef, red sauce, peppers, and onions is popular, but messy, so make sure you eat very carefully or don’t wear anything white. Given the name, you’ve got to try the Italian Sausage as well. Unlike Number 7, this one is easy to eat. Overall, a great place to go to and once you eat there, you’ll see why people keep coming back here.
